Cobb
Team Brings Home State Championship!!!
Congratulations
to the Powder Springs
Soldiers on winning the GRPA (Georgia
Recreation and Parks Association) 2007 Boys Basketball State
Championship!!! The Team traveled to Savannah March 2-3 to represent
Cobb County and brought back the first place trophy in the 17
& Under Division. Congratulations to all of the players,
coaches and supporters that made this possible.
Aquatics
Program Receives National Award
The
Cobb County 's Aquatics Unit received the highest award given
by National Recreation and Parks Association Aquatics Branch
at the National Aquatics Conference on March 2, 2007. The
NRPA 'Excellence in Aquatics' award
is awarded once a year to the agency that exhibits the best
of the best in providing aquatic facilities, programs and service
to their communities.
The
Aquatics Unit serves over 500,000 Cobb County residents annually,
through four indoor aquatic centers and two outdoor pools. The
unit has 17 full time staff and over 100 part time lifeguards
which provides services including: swim lessons for all ages;
swim teams leagues; aquatic exercise; special needs programs;
military and Boy Scout training; lifeguard and swim instructor
training; and general recreational swimming.
Cobb
County has built 4 indoor aquatic centers, including the fully
renovated Central Aquatic Center. The Board of County Commissioners
funded these projects which totaled over 13 million dollars.
Cobb County Parks Department continues to provide the Cobb County
citizens with the best.
Spring
'Front Row' Program Brochure Now Available
The
Spring issue of the 'Front Row' is now available
at all recreation facilities and is available online
for download. The 'Front Row' is the department's
program guide that has information on spring classes, programs
and leagues - plus summer camp
information. Registration for all of these programs begins
soon. Be sure to get you copy of the 'Front Row' so you
will have the latest registration information.
2007
Tournament Schedules Available
The
Al Bishop Softball Complex and Cobb Tennis Centers have posted
their tournament calendars for 2007. You can view the
softball tournament schedule

schedule here. Tournaments are offered for all age
and skill levels. For specific information, contact the
tournament facility directly.
Award
Winning Softball Program
Cobb's
Parks, Recreation and Cultural Affairs Department was recognized
recently by the Amateur Softball Association of America (ASA)
with the 'James Farrell ASA Award
of Excellence'. The award was presented to Al
Bishop Softball Complex Coordinator Brooks Tinsley
at the ASA's national convention in Colorado Springs and was
awarded in recognition of Cobb having conducted one of the highest-rated
ASA national championships in 2006, the Men's Class C Fast-Pitch
National Championship held last September at Lost Mountain Park.
At that same convention, Cobb was awarded the ASA Men's Class
D South Slow-Pitch National Championship for 2008. Later this
year, the county will host the ASA Men's 10-Man Modified Pitch
National Championship.
Leone
Hall Price Memorial Park Master Plan
Public
input meetings for the Leone Hall Price Memorial Park were held
on October 3rd and November 14th at the West Cobb Regional Library.
A proposed Master Plan will be presented to the Cobb County
Board of Commissioners at their regular meeting scheduled for
Tuesday, January 9, 9:00 a.m. on the 2 nd Floor, Building A,
100 Cherokee Street, Marietta, Georgia. View the proposed

New
Soccer Complex Under Construction
The
new West Sandtown Soccer Complex is now under construction
on Barrett Parkway just south of Macland Road. Included
in the park are five lighted soccer fields, concession/restroom
building, walking trail, playground, parking, and maintenance
compound. The complex is scheduled to be open for play
for the Fall 2007 season.
