| RECREATION COBB eNEWS Welcome!!! This is the first of issue of 'Recreation Cobb eNews' - your monthly informational newsletter of the Cobb County Parks, Recreation and Cultural Affairs Department. We will provide you information on your parks system, programs and events, and news you need to know. If you find this information useful, please forward to your family and friends. AQUATICS PROGRAM RECEIVES NATIONAL AWARD The Cobb County's Aquatics Unit received the highest award given by National Recreation and Parks Association Aquatics Branch at the National Aquatics Conference on March 2, 2007. The NRPA 'Excellence in Aquatics' award is awarded once a year to the agency that exhibits the best of the best in providing aquatic facilities, programs and service to their communities. The Aquatics Unit serves over 500,000 Cobb County residents annually, through four indoor aquatic centers and two outdoor pools. The unit has 17 full time staff and over 100 part time lifeguards which provides services including: swim lessons for all ages; swim teams leagues; aquatic exercise; special needs programs; military and Boy Scout training; lifeguard and swim instructor training; and general recreational swimming. Cobb County has 4 indoor aquatic centers, including the fully renovated Central Aquatic Center. The Board of County Commissioners funded these projects which totaled over 13 million dollars. The Cobb County Parks, Recreation and Cultural Affairs Department strives to provide Cobb County citizens with the best in facilities and service. BUILDING BRIDGES BETWEEN EAST COBB PARK AND FULLERS PARK Come join us in dedicating The Norris Wilson Tritt Bridge that has connected Fullers Park to East Cobb Park. This will be a fun family day - bring your family and enjoy an eventful time in the park! Saturday, April 14th , 2007 9:00am - 12:00pm 10:00am - Ribbon Cutting Ceremony 11:00am - Scavenger Hunt There will be inflatables, hot dogs, BBQ, a scavenger hunt with prizes, T-shirts, face painting, caricatures, a balloon artist and more!!! Public Safety will be present with their police cars, and fire engines, drug dogs, the fire safety house, and police robot. For the activities, there will be a nominal fee. HOUSE BARNES AMPHITHEATRE ANNOUNCES SEASON LINEUP
All performances start at 8:00pm. Ticket prices range from $15 to $45. Voted 2005 'Best of' by Atlanta Magazine, this multi-use venue offers dining table seating, oversized seats and a picnic-friendly lawn in addition to onsite catering. It is located at 5239 Floyd Road in Mableton. Season tickets go on sale Friday, March 23 at the Mable House Barnes Amphitheatre box office. The box office is open Mondays through Saturdays from 10:00am to 5:00pm. For group sales, please call (770) 819-7765. Individual show tickets will be available at all Ticketmaster outlets beginning Monday, April 2 and at the amphitheatre box office. COBB TEENS CAN ENJOY A "NIGHT OUT" All teenagers between the ages of 13-19 are invited to come out and enjoy a fun time socializing and interacting at 'Teens Night Out' at the South Cobb Recreation Center. Many fun activities will be offered, including movies, video games, cards, basketball, volleyball, billiards, air hockey, foosball, table tennis and swimming. - Online Registration is Here!!! Gymnastics Program Moved to Fullers Recreation Center As renovations continue at the Cobb Gymnastics Center, the Cobb's gymnastics program has moved from Life University to Fullers Recreation Center. All classes and programs are currently being held at Fullers. Cobb Team Brings Home State Championship!!! Congratulations to the Powder Springs Soldiers on winning the GRPA (Georgia Recreation and Parks Association) 2007 Boys Basketball State Championship!!! The Team traveled to Savannah March 2-3 to represent Cobb County and brought back the first place trophy in the 17 & Under Division. Congratulations to all of the players, coaches and supporters that made this possible. Staff Notes Recreation Services Division Administrative Specialist Pat Vermeer retires from Cobb County Parks, Recreation and Cultural Affairs effective March 30. She leaves the department after 19 years of dedicated service. South Cobb Aquatic Center facility manager Tracy McDonald has taken another position at the Health Place beginning in April. Tracy has worked in the Aquatics Unit since 2000 and was instrumental in opening up the center in 2005. She established the programs and community awareness and involvement at the new center. Kristian Humphries, Recreation Programmer will be acting coordinator until the position is filled. |
