Cobblestone Improvements Planned

We are pleased to announce the Board of Commissioners has approved funding for major renovations to Cobblestone Golf Course. The goal of this work is to recapture the look and quality of play which made it one of the premiere public courses in the southeast.

Specifically, with assistance from Affiniti Golf, we will begin in July to renovate the greens replacing the bent grass with Champion Bermuda. This hybrid grass has proven to be a very good putting surface and will be much more tolerant of heat and traffic than the bent grass. As this work is done, we will bring back to original size all the greens on the course. To support the greens grow-in and continued care, we will be cutting some of the trees to allow full sunlight on them. And yes, we will have year round “green” greens with the help of a little paint during the dormant period.

Next, all bunkers and traps will be completely renovated with new drainage, liners and sand. Obviously, this will bring back the great look and play of fluffy white sand which has not been present over the last few years.

With this work will come installation of a new irrigation system to produce the much needed supply of water for the greens grow-in and general course maintenance.

The work outlined is anticipated to take about nine (9) weeks. This means with work beginning on or about July 1st, the course will be fully playable by mid-September.

Please note that we plan to keep the course open and playable using temporary greens during the construction and grow-in period. Rates will be reduced during this time. However, we also recognize that some of our loyal customers may wish a complete golfing experience not available while the work is being done. To address this, we have asked Affiniti Golf to offer Cobblestone rates at some of the other courses they manage in the area and they have agreed to make this happen. We will provide a listing of these courses and rates on the Cobblestone web-site when work begins.

Thanks to all of you who have continued to play at Cobblestone. Come mid-September, we hope and believe you will be very pleased with the new look and play on a course which will once again be one of the best in our area.
